Went here for lunch a few days ago at the end of May (definitely the off season in this area). The waiter was friendly but not pushy, drinks were refilled quickly, and the food was pretty solid. I had the salmon salad (one of the lunch specials) and we all split a piece of key lime pie for dessert. The key lime pie was pretty good, though I've had others I liked better in this area. Still good overall, and excellent service when you are one of only 3 parties in the restaurant.

The wait staff isn't on par for a restaurant this expensive. Also, Soup cannot be substituted for a salad that is the same price on the menu. Very expensive food , 4 people will cost you 100$ and that's with getting water for a drink. Average atmosphere, below average restaurant and below average taste.

Selling farmed Atlantic salmon is inexcusable and shocking ... If you don't know about the consequences then please read this: farmedanddangerous.org/s… Your supporting the killing of wild salmon, the death of sea lions and birds, contributing to the infiltration of sea lice parasites in all fish and stealing money from the pockets of local fishermen and their families. Selling New Zealand salmon in the same case it atrocious. Your own country sells beautiful wild alaskan salmon and your choosing to be unamerican by selling fish from the other side of the planet-carbon footprint anyone? Shame.

This is an updated review.. We ate here last night and sat at the bar. My wife had the grouper fingers and I had the grouper sandwich. The fish itself was good but a couple complaints.. No condiments came. I had to ask for cocktail sauce. Maybe it's just me but I don't know many people that get a fish sandwich without tarter or cocktail. You really shouldn't have to ask. Then when I did come it was about a tablespoon of cocktail. So then I had a bone in my fish. I didn't say anything because I know it can happen. Also my coleslaw never came. Sorry but I expect more when I'm paying $17 for a sandwich. So overall I have to rate Rodes 3 stars based on service, food, and atmosphere

Went to rodes for our second visit last night. I had the New England clam chowder, it was definitely a "stick to your ribs" type of soup. It wasn't my favorite clam chowder that I've found in the area. If you love being overloaded with clams, I'm sure you would like it. I also ordered the ahi tuna appetizer which was alright, the presentation could've been done better. The best thing about rodes is the market that's connected to the restaurant. Do not leave without purchasing some of the sun citrus harvest orange juice or strawberry orange juice. It is the best juice I have ever had. They also have really great key lime pie.

Terrible! We ordered scallops for dinner and they were tiny, very fishy and WAY OVER PRICED. We also ordered a diet coke and it tasted like the back waters ( please you can't even get the diet coke right) the clam chowder was also a big disappointment. We used to look forward to going to Rhodes, but never again, also they served old tarter sauce that was yellowed on top. Rhodes needs to change their decor, prices, food, and the waitress should shower and wash there hair before coming to work.

The shrimp was absolutely the best I had while I was in Florida and second place wasn't even close. I would have rated this higher but the service was absolutely appalling! We came in late afternoon after fishing all morning and were starving. The place was almost empty but it took forever to get drinks then another eternity to place our orders. I was in favor of leaving but the rest of our party wanted to give them a chance so we stayed. If you have plenty of time then I would recommend it as our food was simple but delicious. The Grouper sandwich is huge and very tasty. Just leave yourself PLENTY of time!

Same rating stands after another experience (someone else chose the restaurant). The seafood was so-so and the sides were fairly terrible--the worst offense being the bland, overcooked "vegetable medley" side. There wasn't even an option to substitute--they just stuck it on every plate. It's the kind of thing that makes people think they hate vegetables. And also, still massively overpriced. Honestly not sure how this place is still in business. Giving 2 stars vs 1 only because service was very good and the people helping our table were lovely.

Genre for rating: casual, seafood I have given Rodes three tries. This remains one of the big mysteries to me. I have no clue how it remains open through the years. I want to say I have just never had a good meal, and it's luck, but I just don't think so. Two of the times I went I had fish that had to have been at least one week old. I have honestly never had fresh like this at any SWFL restaurant. The third time I went I opted for the wings. I like hot wings, especially when the "hot" is not the hottest available. At the time I went, there were two levels above hot. The wings were inedible. I have had hot wings many many times, entered a few contests in my day, and these were a joke. It was such a joke that the gentlemen who made them actually peered out while we ate them laughing. In my opinion, hoping that we would pass out from the eat. It would have been a good prank, if we weren't actually trying to enjoy the meal, and we were paying customers! Nonetheless I will never go back, and I would urge you to skip this place and head to another one of the many seafood restaurants in the area. There are plenty that put Rodes to shame. What I had: the wings, grouper, snapper Best bet: avoid at all costs, plenty of other casual seafood restaurants that are better

Good food. Marginal service. The place was packed, and we had a 30 minute wait (for a table of four), but no worries as we enjoyed drinks at the bar. We were served iceberg salads and rolls prior to our meals. The seafood choices varied around our table: a couple dozen steamed oysters, blackened grouper, and boiled shrimp (a substitute for running out of coconut shrimp). I walked over to the seafood market side of the business and was impressed with the fresh items in the case. Our service was less than optimal. Our multiple-ear-pierced server was less than personable and did not connect with our table. She rarely visited our table. Her tip reflected the poor service.

Came here on a busy Friday night because we had long wait times at other restaurants. We were seated right away with the restaurant being fairly busy. The waitress was pleasant but really slow. Took 10 minutes to greet us and take drink orders. We ordered fried calamari for an appetizer and it was the worst we've ever had. The breading was very bland and the calamari rubbery. We had to add lots of salt and lemon to make it edible. Also ordered the clam chowder and it had lots of clam pieces but tasted like flour paste with a few spices thrown in. Again, seasoned it heavily with salt and pepper to taste better. My son ordered fried shrimp which he said was really good. We waited 10 minutes after our plates were cleared to finally get the check. Our bill was $46 and we paid with a $100 bill. It took her another 10 minutes to come pick up our payment and then she asked if we had anything smaller to pay with. Really? This is a large establishment with a bar and small grocery store. We were not impressed with the food or service and will not return.

Quite possibly the worst crabcake ever made. Nothing but breadcrumbs. No flavor whatsoever.

Why would anyone eat in this dive when spectular fish houses are only 1 mile west down Bonita bch rd? This place will give me nightmares. AVOID

We had the raw oysters and they made us so sick. I was throwing up and in the bathroom all the next day. For the money we spent on dinner and drinks I was hoping for a good review of Rodes but not so much. Outdated decor and slow service makes this place the last place I'll eat again.

The menu isn't huge with lots of options, but the food is always good. There's always fresh fish and seafood plates... You know, daily specials and good things like that. They have a bar area, and a larger dinning area completely separate from the bar area. The restaurant is relatively quiet and great for dates and conversations. You can also pick up fresh seafood and fish amongst other fine foods including the worlds best orange juice inside their grocery section.

The marquis announcing 4 to 9 (yes Nine) Happy Hour explains the crowd in the bar. At the other end of this free-standing resto is a market and fresh fish counter. Key lime pies are a specialty, and are stacked high in a glass-door fridge reserved for them. Merchandising in the market leans toward Fla kitsch with citrus themed articles. The resto is spacious and bright with a celing lined with blade to blade fan lights. The effect is a bit like a strobe on the cheap, but I doubt that they will induce seizures. The menu offers a wide variety of fish, though most are fried. Moms could choose between two types of scallops on the evening that we were there. She selected the tiny Bay scallops and said they were sweet and delicious I had fish and chips, which came as fried but meaty chunks of cod and mahi. We asked for the rhubarb strawberry pie. Our waitress returned and asked us to make another selection because, she reported seriously, she had to toss the pie because it was "bad." Ordinarily, this would send me diving for my car keys, but the substituted carrot cake was good enough to keep me in my poufy, booth seat. I'm betting that the Bad Pie was the last slice, and she stashed it for the end of shift.

Stopped her for a late lunch on the way to Ft. Myers Beach. The 3 of us didn't know where to stop but we were all starving and their sign boasted the"Best Grouper Sandwich" so we stopped here. I had the grouper sando and it WAS one of the best I have ever had. My two travelling companions each had a salad: one with some sort of glazed and grilled shrimp and the other had grilled grouper on his salad. They both enjoyed their salads and, for the price, the portions on everything were very good. Our waiter was a bit unfriendly, but I have found that to be true in many many places in FL. He asked us if we wanted to try their Key Lime Pie as it was "really good" and homemade. We said no, thank you...but we did get a whole pie to go from the "deli" side of the biz. We ate a piece after dinner that night in our condo and we all felt that it was way toooo sweet and not tart enough like a real Key Lime Pie should be. Oh well...

Come here every time we head to Bonita Beach. This time we went down to Vanderbilt beach. Love their seafood fries here. If there are more in the party we will share the seafood platter. We usually go for lunch because dinners are often too busy (as with most good restaurants in this area). And it's also a great place to sit and use wifi with a beer and deep fried oyster. Not a fan of creamy coleslaw, but that won't detract from the experience.

Waitress was horrible. Forgot everything, over and over. So, I'm not holding that against them, but it was not a great start. The food is not very well seasoned and certainly isn't worth the price. The ambiance was like a large dining hall. Not what we were looking for.

Rodes has two parts to it: 1 part is the restaurant and the other part is the seafood market. I have always gotten mixed reviews on the restaurant part for the past decade and haven't tried it, but I will tell you that they do a great business in season as the parking lot is always packed. Then again, so does Carrabas which I think is nothing but big portions of bland food. So Anyway... this review is for the seafood market. The seafood market has been a great place to get delicious & fresh stone crab claws for years and years now. Although other local places have tried (Pinchers - which has some great seafood items, the Fish House Market (which has been closed for a few years now) and a couple of others I can't think of, I have yet to find a place that carries better stone crab claws in Bonita. They have always been fresh and are typically reasonably priced (they were 10.99 a pound for mediums before season started - not stone crab season but the other season where everyone comes down to drive real slow and fill up everything :) . Today, they have just hit 16.99 a pound now that we are in the middle of season but I'm sure they will fall towards the end of season. If you average it out - not too bad. One of the things that sets them apart is the cracking of the claws. I have yet to find a local place that cracks them better than Rodes. So, if you are into stone crab claws and in Bonita, do not hesitate to get them at Rodes. I usually call ahead to make sure that they have what I want for that night (sometimes they have lots of claws when I get there and sometimes they are low or out of the size I want). In addition, much of the other seafood looked good in the market and yes, their "Big Ass" shrimp were big.

Very slow service. Took for ever to get our food and was not worth the wait. Never going back.

Just reviewing the seafood market. We always get the Stone Crab claws and the "big ass" shrimp. They expertly crack the claws for you. In season, don't be surprised to pay $22/lb for your claws. That's the time for them to make their money too. :)

the fried frish platter, with a fry and salad, is a steal - wonderful random selection of fish that's likely whatever is leftover from their rather great fish market that is attached to the restaurant. the soups weren't hot enough and were a dissapointment, the steamed veg was rather bad, and the bread was frozen-take-and-bake style... but for the fried fish, Rodes is redeemed. give it a try if you want a casual dinner in a good environment, but do not expect an excellent meal.

The fish was good. The waitress was nice. Hence the two stars The place is oddly laid out. You enter through the bar, but the dining room is separate through a doorway. It is bright as a beach with ten or more garish fans whirling distractingly over head. There is a high shelf with a collection of objects from Incan masks to a popcorn can. Booths run down the middle and tables and chairs around the edge. The bread was warm dense and not very yeasty. The salad was run of the mill. The swordfish was good but small for the price. The fish bites were good. The veg were either canned or cooked to taste like it. The beans and rice very good. I will probably never go back.

Do not come here if you're looking for good service or good food. The waitresses are a mess and the food in not far behind. The market had a fish dip which resembled a tub of mayonnaise with little to no fish. Will never come back.

Only good for early bird specials. Food is good, but prices way too high, esp for a casual eatery like this. Fried cat fish all you can eat was a light breading. Salmon was good, not fishy tasting. Green beans were fresh and tasty. Service friendly but messed up the order. Gift shop and seafood market attached.

This review is for the fresh seafood market. We stop here every year to pick up scallops and fish to make in our condo for the week. We've eaten here once in the restaurant over the past 16 years. Not good enough to bring us back. But you can get decent seafood for good prices. I don't buy my shrimp or crab here because I have another favorite place for that. Give the market a try.

We got the key lime pie here. Delicious! We went back the next day for another slice. If you are in the area, stop in to grab a pie from the wonderful fridge full of pies. Not sure how the rest of the food compares since we didn't try it.
